Porter trailwork July 26

The Porter trail from Marcy Field needs some work since I wasn’t able to mount any group effort last year. I’m hoping to get enough that we can both clear the blowdown and finish some clipping. Before the Chapter took it over three years ago, it had suffered from many years of neglect, but we have made some good progress.

We will meet at Marcy Field and shuttle to the top of the private roads, which brings us to within about five minutes of the summit of Little Porter. This is above the private property that has closed the trail from the Garden. We will return to Marcy Field via Blueberry.

The Chapter has a “Katanaboy 25” saw, which I will bring, along with some new clippers that fit easily into a pack, but can still cut 1+” branches. We will need other hand saws of various sizes to take the smaller blowdown. A sharp axe would also be appropriate, but obviously this is not chain saw season.

Others are welcome as well. Let me know if you are able to help, so I can plan the shuttles. If you can’t do the trailwork, but have a 4WD vehicle for the shuttle, let me know.

Porter from the Airport trail work - Round 2

We will hopefully finish what was started in June. As before, we will meet at Marcy Field at 8:00 AM and then shuttle to the top of the private roads on Little Porter. We will finish back at Marcy Field. Bring lunch and clothing for the day’s weather and temperature. The Chapter has four pairs of long-handled loppers, but bring your own if you have them. We will have one saw in the event of any fresh blowdown, but the main effort will be clipping. RSVP to tgoodwin12942@gmail.com

Porter Mt. from the Airport - Round 2

Last Saturday, 6/10, a small group cleared just over 1/2 mile along the ridge. There is a similar distance left to finish. We will again meet at Marcy Field at 8 AM and shuttle to the top of Adrian’s Acres. From there is is still 1-1/2 - 2 hours hike to reach the starting point. Long-handled loppers are the preferred tool, and the Chapter has tools for those who don’t. Even if you can’t commit to the trail work, you can help if you have a 4WD vehicle to do the shuttle.
